Q4- How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? (Finlay Diver)

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Technologies we used in the process:

Canon DSL 650 D with 18 - 55 mm lens:

Although I was not the cameraman and therefore didn't have much experience with the camera, when I did use the camera it was easy to use and easy to film with. However one con that I would say is sometimes it was hard to focus with.

Blogger:
Blogger was very useful throughout the production process of our music video to record our research and ideas with ease. However when producing something on blogger especially when using pictures it would become frustrating when the layout would change (from what you see when editing to what viewers see) as pictures would often be in different positions and it wouldn't look as good.
Final cut pro:
Final cut pro was very useful to work on as it auto saved your work and it worked very well on the macs. However after editing the final product took quite a long time to render and if too much footage was added the app wouldn't work properly and made the editing process a lot longer.

Photoshop:
Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editor developed and published by Adobe systems for macOS and Windows. Photoshop was very useful when creating our company logo which featured in both our digipak and magazine advert. In addition to this it is also where we created both our digipak and our magazine advert. Creating them both on the same software mad it easy to implement synergistic elements.

iMac:
The iMac was arguably our most important tool as we used it for all of our research and planning. We used the macs to collect samples from our chosen genre and review tem to see what conventions they had so we knew what to apply to our music video.

Q3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback? (Finlay Diver)

Rough Cut Feedback

To get feedback we first had to show our rough cut to an audience, however going into it we already knew some of the negatives for example there were parts missing from some of the verses so it didn't sound or flow right.
After showing the video to our audience we found out that some of our shots were unstable and or unfocused, some of these had to be re-shot but most were just cut from the video.
The final piece of feedback we were given was that our video ended very quickly and suddenly, so we decided to fade out the video as it worked with the guitar solo.

Final Music Video feedback

For our final edit of our music video we decided to have a larger audience than the rough cut, so that we could gather more feedback.
WWW: -Our lip syncing was good
-Our locations were good
- Our slow motion shots were complimented
- Our editing and transitions were professional

Improvements: The two characters didn't meet each other, should have linked them in some way.

Ancillary Products

The main piece of feedback we were give for both our digipak and magazine advert was to actually re-create photos from the video by doing a photo shoot instead of using screen grabs as it made them both seem more professional.
Another piece of feedback we were given was to use a different font to our originally chosen font as again our original font made the products look very unprofessional, almost like something made in powerpoint. After changing the font our products looked a lot better and more like a digipak/magazine poster from an alternative pop artist.

Q2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? (Finlay Diver)

Eval q2

Synergistic Elements
The main synergistic element used in all our media products (Video products and two ancillary products) was the artist 'Dan O'brien' where we portray him as an average, normal guy as thats what you hear from his music. In all products we have him standing in the same pose with his guitar which links to the conventions of an alternative pop genre.

The second synergistic element was the casual font we used for the title of the song 'Far From Me'  and it linked with other font with the same genre of music video. The font is at the end of the music video so it sticks into people minds so they remember it and can link it to the ancillary products when they see them.

Q3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback? (Teejay Celeste)

Final Video - Feedback

We got alot of quite positive feedback for the music video. They liked the shots in the park, and the fact how it was so well lip sinking was so well synced with the song. In addition, the editing was very good it all looked good together.

One thing that  we could improve is that the two characters of the music video never met, so it could be confusing to someone as to how they link.

Rough cut - Feedback

We showed our rough cut to members of our target   audience, they noticed clearly there were parts missing that may have needed to be re shot, also there were no transitions at it was a rough cut. They also said that the fade ending was too sudden,as we removed the guitar solo from the rough cut as we though the music video would be too long, However, due to his feedback we ended up adding the guitar solo back in to the final cut of the music video

Ancillary Products - Feedback

Digipak

We received quite a lot of feedback for our digital before we came up with the final product It had the synergistic elements that linked it too the music video, this meant that for someone who didn't   know who the artist was they would be able to link the music video to the artist.

Magazine advert

The magazine advert and digipak also had synergistic elements, as they both features picture of the main artist Dan O'brien on them. Also the magazine advert was good as it features all the details of the album such as the release date, featured songs and quotes from popular news outlets, like a real magazine advert would have

Feedback - Target Audience Survey

This feedback helped as members of our target audience are outlining what they would like to see in a music video, using these answer's we can maybe implement some of these suggestions into our music video as it is what people would like too see.

Overall, this survey was successful, as it gave us insight into what genre of music most people in our target audience are interested in, and gave us insight into what members of our target audience would like too see in a music video. This meant that we were able to these results in order to make our final product more suited to our target audience in terms of what is in our music video, the artist, what song we use and lets us know if they would even watch a music video or rather just listen to audio.
